After all this time always hitting the board but hanging in the stretch, the Mark Casse-trained filly with so much promise, #11 Wonder Gadot, finally sealed the deal and won this easily beating the boys (and the other filly Dixie Moon who was eased but fortunately walked off the track on her own volition) in the process.  The addition of blinkers clearly worked as it helped her focus and keep on running down the stretch.

The Super Screener Top Long Shot pick experienced a tough trip with a poor start and then having to briefly put on the brakes at the top of the stretch before gathering momentum, costing him a third place and possibly a 2nd place finish in the race.  

We included both long shot bombs #2 Cooler Mike and #15 Aheadbyacentury in the back of the Trifecta ticket as it was conceivable that they could hit the bottom of the Trifecta and Superfecta, but Aheadbyacentury was even better than that, completing the Exacta.

The Super Screener did correctly fade the 2nd choice Telekinesis as the pace pressure did indeed wear him down as the pace leader ensuring an honest pace for stablemate, Wonder Gadot.  As for the third stablemate and Super Screener Top Long Shot pick, Neepawa, what were connections thinking pushing this closer into the hot early pace?  Ensuring more pace for Wonder Gadot? Definitely follow up on this horse for his next start. He is clearly being pointed elsewhere with that kind of move.

 

Highlander (G1)

Long On Value was long on late run and nipped the Super Screener Top Value play, Lady Alexandra, by a neck at the wire.  The latter ran the best race as she pressed the white hot pace, yet, was the only horse from among the early speed that didn’t finish in the back of the field.  Definitely one to follow as she continues her 2018 campaign for the new barn. Here’s what the Super Screener had to say about this filly racing against the boys.

Dance Smartly (G2)

Santa Monica leveraged that cited quick turn of foot of foot against the soft early pace to prevail by a half length over the Super Screener Top Win pick, Inflexibility, completing the all too common Chad Brown Exacta.  Our Top Board hitter pick, Holy Helena, completed the Trifecta which cashed but it was nothing to write home about as it was a chalkfest in the end. Our Top Long Shot pick, Flower Fashion was scratched.

 

Kelly’s Landing

This was shaping up to be a prime wagering race with plenty of value potential as the Super Screener was fading the odds-on favorite Chief Cicatriz, but that one scratched along with our Top Long Shot pick, Requite, and a pace factor in Cool Arrow.  That left us with a compact field of 7 and conviction was even higher (if not the odds) regarding our top picks, CZ Rocket and Storm Advisory and they came in 1-2 to complete the Exacta for the $260 payout.

Bashford Manor (G3)

Okay, name the last time you witnessed two 100-1 shots finishing 2nd and 3rd?  I couldn’t recall a single time but that’s exactly what happened in this year’s renewal of the Bashford Manor.  The Super Screener Top Board Hitter, Sir Truebadour won the race and Top Long Shot pick, Cat Addiction, completed the Superfecta, but the the pair of 100-1 shots stole the show in this one.  Top Win pick, Toothless Wonder, got pinballed coming down the stretch so not sure if that knocked the air out of him but he faded from there. Hats off to you if you caught this Exacta or Trifecta!

 

Belmont Park and Arlington Park take center stage this Saturday with both venues offering several graded stakes races including the much anticipated G1 Belmont Derby, G1 Belmont Oaks and the Breeders’ Cup win and your in race, the G1 Belmont Sprint Championship.
