Stars & Stripes Day RECAP!

Belmont Derby (G1)

No shockers here as the top three went around the track in merry-go-round fashion well clear of the rest of the field throughout in a race that featured a very soft early pace before quickening some as they hit the mile marker. It was a thrilling race to watch as Catholic Boy and Analyze it produced a déjà vu race here replicating a nearly identical outcome here including the lead exchange down the stretch.  The Super Screener was in search of value and keyed in on Kingstar to provide a boost in the mutual but he did not show the turn of foot in previous races in Europe but did close to finish 5th.

Belmont Oaks (G1)

Absolutely nothing went right in this race as far as the Super Screener was concerned.
Aidan O’ Brien trained, Athena, defied a lot of Screener criteria…in particular, coming back just 6 days after her last race while shipping over the pond to go on to win this rather handily. The other Euro shipper from France, Chipolata, previously trained by Christophe Clement’s brother, completed the Trifecta at eye-popping odds of 36-1. Wedged in the middle for second place was the game filly, Thewayiam, who clearly overcame any distance limitations that even her own barn raised concerns around.  In a rare occurrence, the Chad Brown trained pair of Significant Form and Mighty Scarlett did not hit the board. Fatale Bere really disappointed here as did Toinette and La Signare confirming that the US-based 3 year-old female turf crop is pretty weak this year.

Parx Dash (G3)

Horses exiting a race from CD continue to excel in this race as Vision Perfect pressed then pounced for the win as the 2nd choice and the 4th ranked Super Screener horse. #10 Pool Winner. held on smartly at odds of 11-1 for a solid 2nd place finish.

The 3rd time was not the charm for Pure Sensation as he contested the pace but ran out of gas in a race to which he was prepped and pointed.  Perhaps now at age 7 he has finally lost a step or two. Both Dubini and Oak Bluffs flopped and could not follow up their solid efforts earned at Penn National last out.

Modesty (G3)

The Super Screener Top Board Hitter pick, Daddys Lil Darling, was just too good for this field and won this one rather easily as the odds-on favorite.  Prado’s Sweet Ride made it 2 years in a row now to finish 2nd at a good price in this race.  The Super Screener Top Win and Top Value Pick did finish 3rd while Top Long Shot pick, Con Te Partiro completed the Superfecta which we just missed.  Got the win spot correct by limiting that to Daddys Lil Darling and Hallie Belle. Got the 4th place slot right by limiting that position to the top long shot picks Con Te Partiro and Princess La Quinta.  Had Prado’s Sweet Ride in the show spot but needed to include him in the 2nd place position.

Stars and Stripes (G3)

The best result on the day came in the G3 Stars and Stripes Stakes at Arlington Park as the Super Screener’s best-of-the-best win contenders finished 1st at high-value odds of 8-1 and the 2nd best win pick, Canessar completed the Exacta.  A Super Screener Top Long Shot pick, Soglio, completed the $1 Trifecta which paid a decent $412.80.

Arlington Handicap (G3)

We were right about Synchrony being vulnerable as the odds-on favorite but wrong about Divisidero who carried that CD form over to the Arlington Park turf course. Of note, long shot bomber picks Tizzarunner, Just Howard and Twenty Four Seven finished as a tight bunch in 4th, 5th and 6th, respectively.

We are just over a week away from the always highly anticipated Saratoga and Del Mar race meets and we’ll be covering more races than ever before every weekend at those historic meets.  In the meantime, we have a line up next weekend of some interesting G3 Stakes races including the Indiana Derby and Oaks, the Delaware Handicap and the Los Alamitos Derby. It’s July which means there is never a dull moment and we have it all covered for you right here.

Until this weekend, Go Fast and Win!

Mike
