Los Alamitos Futurity Recap

Los Alamitos Futurity (G1)

Is the Bob Baffert barn loaded this year or what? I wouldn’t be shocked to see 2 of his horses finish in the Trifecta 5 months from now on the first Saturday in May (doesn’t that seem close at hand as we slog through winter?) but we are getting way ahead of ourselves. As anticipated, Improbable readily destroyed this field and looked really good doing it.  We have doubts about the Derby distance but this will be a huge player in the Derby preps.

Wait A While Stakes

Well the outcome here almost worked out perfectly as one of the Super Screener’s two “A” horses, A Bit Special, won this race and our Top Long Shot pick, Vow to Recover, who we locked in third in a Trifecta finished exactly right there at nice odds of 16-1…the only problem is that we didn’t include the “C” horse, Fortunate Girl in 2nd.  Note, if you included her in 2nd in our recommended $2 Trifecta wager recommendation you were rewarded with a payoff of over $1,000.  That’s the kind of return we are shooting for.

It was very surprising that the public let 3rd place finisher, Vow to Recover escape at big odds of

16-1.  Here’s what the Super Screener said about this filly prior to the race:

“#5 Vow to Recover laid out energy pretty evenly on her way to victory in her last race and it was a progression over her last race that was run just a tad shorter. Form cycle analysis indicates she’ll move a few points forward here which would make her a good threat to hit the bottom of the Trifecta or Superfecta at a nice price.”

With the scratch of #9 Red Hot Dame, #10 Stormy D became our other Top Long Shot choice to single in 3rd and 4th in wagers and that desired outcome was just a short neck away as she finished 5th just behind Red Rounder, the pace horse, at gargantuan odds of 37-1.

LA Champions Day Sprint

No surprises here as the Super Screener called the Exacta and faded the odds-on favorite, Monte Man, some due to the quick come back as he is best with spacing between races. While we hit the Exacta because Divine Bean was such a valued play to finish 1st or 2nd at favorable odds of 8-1, we were looking for one of our long shot plays to get closer but that was not the case.  We’ll take the Exacta hit and good to see Givemeaminit finally come back to where he belongs.

MD Juvenile Filly Championship

Ugh!  The conviction by the Super Screener on the Top Long Shot pick of #7 Abbo hitting the board at a price was super high but, alas, she was scratched. That eliminated our prime wagers.  In the end, the race was won by the improbable long shot, Money Fromheaven.

The stakes pickings continue to be thin as we wait in anticipation of the start of the Santa Anita meet on 12/26 and for the top barns to send their best horses to Gulfstream Park in early January, but we’ll find the best-of-the-best stakes races this coming weekend and might even dip into full-field top allowance races to find some advantageous wagering opportunities.

Until next weekend, Go Fast and Win!
