Memorial Weekend Stakes Results

It was slim pickings when it came to Graded Stakes action this Saturday.  To add insult to injury, scratches reduced already compact fields further and turned the highly playable G3 Arlington Classic Stakes 10-horse field into a 6-horse affair in which the longest price horse went off at 6-1.

Looking forward to getting back to some better stakes racing this coming weekend and, in the future, we will use full-field allowance races when Stakes races come up short on playability.

G3 Arlington Classic

This race was decimated by scratches reducing what was a very playable field of 10 to a six-horse contest in which the longest priced horse was 6-1 making it an unplayable affair. The only consolation here was that the top Super Screener pick did win the race and the top three ranked horses did comprise the Trifecta but when the Trifecta only pays $32.40 it doesn’t really matter much.

G3 Winning Colors

Finley’sluckycharm proved to be just too good destroying this field at odds of 1-5.  Connections of Athena decided to run closer to the pace for some reason and what a mistake that was as the three horses trying to run close to Finley’sluckycharm all exhausted themselves ending up in the back of the field.  This opened the door for the two horses that were at the back of the field early to simply pass that tiring bunch and take 2nd and 3rd place at good odds.

Lady Angela Stakes

The anticipated pressured pace materialized but the Woodbine synthetic surface carried speed on this day resulting in a sharp win by Silver Princess.  Favored Conquest Vivi looks like she needed the race and will be a sharp horse at next asking.  Our top long shot bomber, the deep-closing Tethra’s Magic, had the perfect set up but could not get past a game Lisa’s Escarpment for 4th.

Musical Romance Stakes

The predicted hot and pressured pace materialized and this was the perfect set up for the  top Screener pick, Eva London, but it was the improbable Money Or Love that suddenly woke up here and bombed for the win at 38-1 as the longest shot on the board.

Super Screener anticipated that an on-the-board finish was possible for this long shot but could not see the win:

(Money or Love) Prefers shorter distance and does face tougher for a pretty unproductive barn.  Will be closing into the pressured pace picking up pieces late.  A third place finish would not shock but mid-pack is more likely.  Would need 20-1+ to consider.”

The racing spotlight turns to Pennsylvania headed by the G2 Penn Mile and other stakes contests on the Penn National undercard.  As mentioned previously, if stakes action comes up light we’ll substitute playable, full-field allowance type races as a result.

The Belmont Stakes is now less that 2 weeks away and we have begun our analysis as the field starts to take shape with connections making final decisions on who is in and who is out of the “Test of Champion”… stay tuned for more.

Until next weekend…Go fast and win!
