RECAP: A Sloppy Saturday at Oaklawn

The theme for the weekend was the B’s have it. The Oaklawn Park surface came up muddy on Saturday and it quickly became apparent that closers from the outside were going to dominate, which was a departure from the prevailing presser winning running style. “A” horses struggled as most of them were presser types.

Three of the Pick 4 winners were Super Screener “B” horses including the winner of the final leg, #6 Don Vito Corleone, who went off at monster odds of 25-1.

Cardamon, a natural closer, was more forwardly placed but leveraged that abundant stamina to easily prevail over his rivals.  The Super Screener Top Board Hitter, Inthemidstofbiz, gamely held 2nd. Georgia Clay, despite her preference for muddy surfaces and other attributes we cited, was a no show while traveling wide.

OP R8

WinningImpression was the clear winner here but was disqualified and placed off the board moving Finnick the Fierce up to first place on a day that was very kind to these closer types.  The Super Screener Top Long Shot and Top Win pick, Adhhar moved up to 3rd place at odds of 20-1.  Answer In, the odd-on favorite and a presser, worked against the bias and finished 5th before the move up to 4th.

OP R9 – Purple Martin Stakes

The finish here was very orderly with the top 3 ranked Super Screener horses comprising the Trifecta. Only shot at catching any price here was to get a long shot up on the board but it was not to be.

Between Fonner Park and Oaklawn Park, four stakes races are lined up for next Saturday and we’ll have them covered so we carry on and look forward to the welcomed distraction of our favorite sport.

Until this coming weekend, Go Fast, Stay Healthy and Win!
